FamilySearch has arranged for at least 13 premium online research services to be available at all FamilySearch Centers and available on all 17 computers.

Access to these online services is provided through the Richland FamilySearch Center and are listed as follows:

19th Century British Library Newspapers

This fully searchable database of the British Library’s newspaper holdings provides a complete run of 48 national and regional Victorian British newspapers for the 19th century from 1800 to 1900. These support the study of colonial history, genealogical research, politics, urban studies, and media courses.

Alexander Street Press – American Civil War

Research Data: Contains indexed, searchable information on over 4 million soldiers and thousands of battles, together with 15,000 photographs. http://asp6new.alexanderstreet.com/cwdb

American Ancestors

Created by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, the American Ancestors website allows searches in a variety of different databases including, 19th-century newspapers, court and probate records, genealogies, journals and periodicals, and immigration records.

Ancestry – Institution Version

Ancestry gives you access to thousands of collections of records from around the world, including immigration, census, voter, vital, and military records; newspapers and periodicals; family trees; photos and images; directories, maps, court, land, wills and financial records, stories, memories, and histories; and detailed records about births, marriages, deaths, land ownership, and much more. It is the largest for-profit genealogy company in the world.

ArkivDigital

ArkivDigital is the largest private provider of Swedish Church Records and other historical records online! All images are newly photographed color images of the original documents.

British Newspaper Archive

Only available at select locations

The largest historical newspaper database online, contains tens of millions of newspaper pages from 1607 to present. Every newspaper in the archive is fully searchable by keyword and date, making it easy for you to quickly explore historical content. Users must create a free account to use the free credits provided by the FamilySearch Library. This also allows users to save searches and images to their account.

FamNet

The online family history network for those who have New Zealand roots.

Findmypast

Findmypast makes it easy to research your UK ancestry and create your family tree. Search census records and trace births, marriages, and deaths to bring your family history to life. Please note that not all of the content from Findmypast is available in FamilySearch centers.

1911 British Census (accessed through the Findmypast website)-The 1911 UK Census is a record of everyone who lived in England and Wales in 1911. It provides a unique snapshot of the lives of those who lived at that time.

Fold3 – formerly Footnote

Search or browse millions of historical documents and photos. Fold3 has refocused their efforts on gathering the best online collection of military records and stories. The Fold3 name reflects military history and honor, since traditionally, the third fold in a flag-folding ceremony honors and remembers veterans for their sacrifice in defending their country and promoting peace in the world.

GenealogyBank

Only available at select locations

GenealogyBank is a leading online genealogical resource from NewsBank, inc. featuring a wealth of exclusive material-including modern obituaries and historical newspapers, books, pamphlets, military records, government documents and more to help users locate information about their family.

GenealogyQuebec

Only available at select locations

GenealogyQuebec is the largest online collection of Quebec historical and genealogical documents. All users must accept Terms of Use to access the website.

Geneanet

This resource, available in centers in the United Kingdom only, contains English parish records, directories, census, civil registration, surname mapping, and selected army and navy lists.

Irish Ancestors

Irish Ancestors aims to be the one-stop starting point for all Irish ancestral research, mapping surnames and surname variants in all the major sources and providing easy links back to all the underlying records.

MyHeritage – Library Edition

Used by millions of people worldwide to help research family history, build a family tree, and add photos, historical records, and more.

Newspaper Archive

The Genealogist

The special access that FamilySearch has been granted to these databases only works when the online services are accessed through a computer in the Richland FamilySearch Center. (Please note that entering the web sites of these providers through their regular, public URLs will not provide access to the full versions that have been authorized for FamilySearch Center use and some of the “localized” sites are not available to the Richland FamilySearch Center).

Free On Site Services

One-on-one individual attention is provided during regular posted hours. That service is provided free by volunteers, many who have specialized genealogical research experience they are willing to share. However, the TriCities Genealogical Society does offer paid services. (See the Research link.)

Most PC workstation locations have two monitors, one being a touch-screen.

A Memory Lane Room

Photos, 35mm slides (four slides in batch mode) and negatives even back to the ’30s and ’40s (the wider negatives) can be digitized using a photo flatbed scanner. Professional software (SilverFast©) has been obtained to convert negatives to digital prints. 

A Fast Photo scanner has been obtained for digitizing photos of all shapes and sizes. It can also scan Poloroids©. It lives up to its name. It also scans both sides of a photo, so it can capture any notes that may have been written on the back sides.

The ability to digitize home movies from the ’50s and ’60s (8mm) is also now available. Two working 8mm projectors (8mm and Super 8) are also available.
